Circle lenses are no different from contact lenses. They should be handled and cared for the same way. There are risk of infections if standard precautions are not taken. Here are some of them:

  • Handle your contact lenses with clean and dry hands.
  • Do not wear another person's contact lenses. They can never be shared.
  • Wear your circle contact lenses before applying make up.
  • Use multipurpose solution for disinfecting, cleaning, washing and storing the contact lenses.
  • If you use saline for storing them, you still require multipurpose solution for disinfection.
  • Store contact lenses in fresh solution after disinfecting them.
  • Clean the contact lens case daily with hot water or multipurpose solution and let dry.
  • The tip of solution bottles must not touch other surfaces, including your fingers.
  • The cap of solution bottles must be closed immediately after usage.
  • Always wash your hands thoroughly with a mild soap. Rinse your hands completely and dry with a lint-free towel before touching your contact lenses. Do not use any oily cosmetics, soaps containing cold cream, lotions or creams on your hands before handling your contact lenses.
  • Always rinse your contact lenses with saline or multi purpose solution before wearing them.
  • Develop the habit to wear the contact lens on your right eye first to avoid getting mix-up.
  • Make sure there are no tears, rips or debris on the contact lens. If it appears to be damaged, discard it.
  • Rinse your contact lens with saline or multi purpose solution if there are visible dust or debris on the contact lens. Never use tap water.
  • Check if the contact lens is turned outside in, shown as in the illustration below. Make sure that the edge faces up and not sticking to your finger.
  • Place the middle finger of the same hand close to your lower eyelashes and pull down the lower lid. Use the forefinger or middle finger of the other hand to lift the upper lid.
  • Place the contact lens on your eye. Gently release your lid and blink. The contact lens will center automatically.
  • Use the same technique when inserting the lens for your left eye.
  • If the lens causes eye discomfort, remove it. It might be because:
    1. There are tiny particles of dusts or debris on the contact lens. Rinse it again with multi purpose solution or saline.
    2. The contact lens may be on the wrong eye.
    3. The contact lens may be inside out, which will cause discomfort and irritation.
  • Always wash your hands thoroughly with a mild soap. Rinse your hands completely and dry with a lint-free towel before touching your contact lenses. Do not use any oily cosmetics, soaps containing cold cream, lotions or creams on your hands before handling your contact lenses.
  • Fill your contact lens case with solution before you take your contact lenses out.
  • Use the index finger of your opposite hand to pull up your upper eyelid.
  • Use the middle finger of your dominant hand with the contact on it to pull your lower eyelid down.
  • Look up and carefully slide the contact down, then pluck it out.
  • Be careful not to rip the contact. Eventually you won't have to slide it down, you can just pluck it but, but this may cause ripping/tearing.
  • Place the contact in the palm of your hand.
  • Drench it in contact solution and gently rub it with a finger, from middle to outer edge then flip it over and do the same to the other side.
  • Rinse the contact lens again with solution and place it in its proper (left or right) case.
  • Repeat the steps above to remove the contact lens on the other eye.
  • Leave your contact lenses in the lens case for at least a couple of hours and rest your eyes.
